Aaron was born and raised in Rochester, New York, and grew up in the historic 19th Ward. His family ties also run deep in Kingstree, South Carolina. That blend of Northern roots and Southern heritage shaped who he is. Community matters. Faith matters. Showing up for people matters. A proud graduate of Edison High School, Aaron carries both hometowns with him in the way he serves.
A calling discovered early
At 11 years old, Aaron began volunteering at Metropolitan Funeral Chapels, Inc., one of the largest funeral firms in Rochester’s inner city. Even then, he understood something important about this work. Families need calm. They need honesty. They need someone who will treat every detail with care and every story with respect.
What started as service became purpose. For more than 26 years, Aaron has walked beside families with patience, dignity, and a warm smile that lets people know they are not alone.
Service as ministry
For Aaron, this work is ministry. His father, the late Deacon Benjamin F. James, dreamed of becoming a funeral director but could not afford mortuary school while growing up in Kingstree. He never lost his passion for the profession and became Aaron’s greatest encourager. He even assisted Aaron at the funeral home on several occasions.
When Aaron’s father passed on September 2, 2023, grief became even more personal. That loss deepened Aaron’s understanding of what families feel and need. He approaches every arrangement and every moment with reverence, knowing these are days people will remember for a lifetime. Serving families is also a way he honors his father’s legacy.

Aaron is the proud godfather of twelve children and a consistent, loving presence in their lives. When he has time to recharge, he heads out on the road, often to Kingstree to spend time with his mother and extended family. Those trips offer peace, perspective, and gratitude.
His heart for Rochester
Rochester formed Aaron’s sense of purpose. Growing up in the 19th Ward taught him to look out for neighbors and to serve with humility.
