Donald Paul Paquin, Don, Donny, Dad, Grampa, born May 27, 1939, in Malone New York departed this life on December 29th, 2024, in Rochester New York. His life touched countless others with his kindness, love, and generosity. He was highly intelligent, a friend to all those he touched, and caring of everyone with a wit and humor that made people laugh. If he didn’t know you, he would get to know you and remember you the next time he saw you. He made an impression on everyone he met.
He was very proud of all of his four sons, three of whom were in the military and one who was so smart, mature, and responsible that he kept his brothers in line while his father worked two jobs and went to school nights. The early years were challenging; partly because of the recession which often required travel for work but he treasured his boys dearly as evidenced by the multiple photographs he took of them. He loved his kids even if he wasn’t able to show it all the time..
A simple, unselfish person, Donald was the kind of man who never thought of himself first, but always thought of others. He brought farming newspapers to the Mennonite farmer where he bought his eggs. He sent a book about the Makenzie method to someone having back trouble, and brought books home about Ireland to his wife because she was interested in the culture. These were just examples but he was so much more.
When he married for the second time to the love of his life. Christina, her extended family became his own. His wife’s first granddaughter, Mya, helped raise to the grown woman she is today. He was very devoted to grandchildren and went above and beyond what most grandparents attempt to do. He was a constant chauffeur, babysitter, and confident, a great cook and big reader of everything and anything.
He attended New York University and graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in science. He worked in New York City, at a hotel, and later in Rochester at a scientific laboratory with rabbits. In Addition to these jobs he became an accountant, owned his own computer programming company and later became a caregiver in a hospice.
His humor was beyond measure. He joked often, stating we shouldn’t worry about this or that and had a phenomenal memory. He loved to drive, especially long distances. When asked if he was lost once, he said, “I’m never lost! Wherever I am there I are.”
Donald leaves behind his wife, Christina Paquin; sons Jacques Paquin, Julien Paquin, Adrien Paquin, Raoul Paquin; daughter Jeanine Paquin; stepchildren, Melanie Jensen, Stephanie Cole, Amanda Dionne; and countless grandchildren.
Donald will be missed. His absence will leave a void in our hearts.
We will all miss him terribly.
