Norbert J. VerWeire
A lifelong resident of Greece, NY passed away on January 7, 2025 at the ripe old age of 90.
Norbert (AKA Norby, Rainbow, Papa, Big Papa, Nerve, Herb, and the “Mayor of PYA Drive”) was born June 1, 1934, the youngest of five children to Cyrille and Amy VerWeire. He married Marilyn Polaski in 1956, and together they raised their five children on Picturesque Drive, their beloved home. Norb served in the US Army, worked at Bell & Howell and Kodak.
Norb was one-of-a-kind. He could be naughty, but was always nice. You were not going to leave a room without getting to know him—and love him. He loved many things: meeting new people, dogs, the Yankees, the Red Wings, the Bills, bowling, mowing the lawn, golf, collecting hats (“Don’t touch nothin’!”), cheeseburgs on hardrolls, melon, softball, making breakfast for his grandkids, and most of all: his family. He leaves behind a close family who will always remember his gift for making you smile when you needed it most.
Norb is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children: Sandy (Kurt) Cleland, Laurie Grandy, Jimmy VerWeire, David (Kim) VerWeire, and Lisa (Dave) Bush; grandchildren: Kevin (Taylor), Shane, and Megan Cleland, Amy (TJ) Kuznia, Brendan Grandy, Grace (Luke) and Livvy (Afroz) VerWeire, and Dylan and Tanner Bush; and, great-grandchildren: Colin Rivera and Harper Kuznia. Norb is also survived by his brother- and sister-in-law, Jim and Cathy Polaski, many nieces and nephews, and many other friends and family he loved with all his heart. He had many years of fun times with his neighbors, including the Schmeers, the Hedbergs, the Woods, and the Sixbys.
A celebration of his life will be held this Summer—stay tuned. Meanwhile, when you see a rainbow, blow him a kiss.
