Byllye E. Chew-Montalto, 85, of Fairport, NY, died unexpectedly, but peacefully, with her son by her side at Strong Memorial Hospital after a cardiac event, Tuesday, November 05, 2024.
Born on November 16, 1938, Byllye was raised in Washington, PA by her parents the late Harry Chew and Frankie & Bob Knisely. After graduation from Chartiers-Houston Joint High School she attended college at Penn State University. She was a recipient of a scholarship to Penn State from the West Penn Power Company Memorial Scholarship. While at Penn State she met her former husband, married and started her family.
Since early childhood Byllye has been an avid reader and had an insatiable curiosity and was a lifelong learner. She had many interests including knitting, reading, gardening, hiking and history. Her next interest was only a book or internet search away.
Byllye has had many roles in life, from stay at home mother, Cub Scout den mother, local newspaper reporter, food columnist, bookkeeper, office manger, fund raising coordinator for public television auctions, work for the Cancer Society and local historical societies to name a few.
Predeceased by her brother Lee Chew, daughters in-law Stacey Montalto (Stephen) and Freida Montalto (David). Byllye is survived by sons Stephen, Michael, & David; daughter Jennifer (Tom) Conger, granddaughters, Meagan, Kelsey, Delaney & Meghann.
Byllye was a 50 year breast cancer survivor, and like all of us, has had loved ones affected by Cancer. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in her name.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services.
Every day is a blessing … let that be her celebration of life! Byllye will forever remain in our hearts.
